What is the Criminal History web site?
This is an amateur web site, edited by Alan J. Bishop, for fans and writers of historical crime fiction. It’s main intention is to promote the genre of crime fiction set, or written, in the historical past. It also wants to provide resources and aids for readers of it too.
Please Note:
This is a site devoted, largely, to the written word. So, the casual visitor might notice a certain lack of images and snazzy graphics. Never no mind - enjoy what you can read and what images I can publish. Most book covers I show can be “clicked” to enlarge and remain the property of the artists producing them. Every attempt has been made to identify the copyright of images. Unless otherwise stated, the opinions, writings and images are the property of the editor, Alan J. Bishop.
What’s on Criminal History?
The subjects are divided into approximate time “zones” (see the navigation buttons at the top of this page), and include works up to the outbreak of World War Two. This boundary is purely arbitrary and is only due to my own limitations. Each section has a general commentary, a list of recommended author, links to relevant web sites and, of course, a link to an article or review published here, on Criminal History.
On this Home page, there are five main “button” links - News, Resources, Competition, Media Watch and Article. The News page lists forthcoming releases, signings and events. Media Watch is a review or article about historical crime fiction in film, TV or radio. Resources gives links to the Criminal History Yahoo! Group, an Email link if you have any ideas, comments or want to be “subscribed” to a mailing list, letting you know when new updates and news appear. Don’t miss the Competition link for the latest free-to-enter quiz. Finally, the Article link for discussion articles which cover all of the time periods and the genre as a whole.

This month sees reviews of favourite authors, the competition, the attendance of myself at the Theakstone’s Crime Writing Festival and news of our favourite authors success - what’s not to like?
